What a year we’ve had! We started out so strong in the wee hours of 2020, and then watched as the structures in which we participate disintegrate.

But we managed.

We knew the need for services wouldn’t disappear. And in some instances, especially instances such as family violence or anxieties, the need grew.

And do you know what? Between the Centre and the clients – we figured it out! Do you know that we provide a similar amount of services to a similar amount of people, when we compare this crazy year to last not-so-crazy year?

That’s right. Here are our September statistics compared to last year’s:

Calls fieldedCounselling Sessions (Women)Counselling Sessions (Children)
Average 2019/202037628133
September 202032830130

Thank you for helping us to find a way to provide the services required in the safest ways possible during a pandemic.

The current code red restrictions leave us providing counselling and check-ins via telephone and Zoom. Our outreach will be offering drop-in via Zoom (see below), as well as the public education program continues to provide events by Zoom.

We at Fort Garry Women’s Resource Centre miss seeing you in person, and look forward to doing that again soon!

Presented by Cst. Maria Buduhan and Cst. Christine Welsh  |  Winnipeg Police Service

Stuck at home during the pandemic, many people have been spending more of their lives online.  The spread of COVID has put public gatherings on hold and has pushed us over to our devices for work, play and connecting.

Young people in particular are spending an increasing time on social media and the internet which means a greater exposure to risk of harm.  With Women, especially young women (18-24 years) are most likely to experience cyberviolence/online harassment: stalking, sexual harassment and bullying/physical threats.

It is important to be educated and alert to ensure online experiences are safe and positive.

Space is limited – Pre registration is required by calling (204) 477-1123. This is a women only event.
